“I will turn the desert into pools of water …” (Isaiah 41:18)

Winter is about to come to an end.  I tremble as I type this.  While it is a beautiful spring day outside I know how temperamental old Mother Nature can be and how the weather could turn around on a March wind in the blink of an eye.  Yet, with or without momentary lapses into cold, miserable, dank weather,  spring is on the way and new life is about to burst forth all around us.  That’s God’s promise – always has been and is today.

Sometimes our lives feel just like winter:  cold, bitter, frozen, windy, unstable, and even dead.  Yet our life is never dead.  Our feelings are never frozen.  Yes, some times the winds of change and challenge and conflict and stress and hurt feelings, both mine and others can blow through our life as if there is no tomorrow.  Yet, in such times it is always good to remember that spring is just around the corner.

Where only cold and frozen ground seems to be under our feet there is in fact new life always waiting to be born.  Where only hurt seems to lie, hope is on the horizon.  Where conflict seems to be one thing after another and always bitter, restoration and healing are always within the grasp of a few short days or even months and are sure to come – sooner or later.

God promised to turn the deserts into pools of water.  He promised new life out of old life to those who would trust in Him and follow Him.  In the same way He promises to turn our winters of cold and discontent into springs of warmth and sunshine.  New life is always being born.  New dreams are always happening.  New hopes are always sustaining old hurts.

With God all things are possible.  If you have felt cold and lifeless come to the Lord and let him restore warmth and life to your heart.  If you have feel  like a winter’s leaf blowing to and fro,  come to the Lord and let Him give you place.  If you have felt as if no new life was possible in your cold, frozen life then take God at His word and let Him lead you to new life.  I look forward to seeing you in church this Sunday and every Sunday for the rest of our new lives together.
